Life

Life, in and of itself, is a large focus of the overall human experience that people call “life”.  It seems that there is a ‘life’ for everything.  People have their home life, their work life, their private life and even what is called a love life.  But when all of these different ‘lives’ are cut away, what is left?  Some people (as few as there may be) look forward to eternal life, that is, life everlasting, life which has no end.  In this modern day society there is much dispute as to what constitutes ‘life’, and there are as many opinions as there are ‘lives’.  For example, to some a “love life” may be one which is sexually illicit, while to others it may be defined by a faithful monogamous marriage.  How is one to come to a reasonable conclusion?  It is best to begin with a standard concerning life as a whole.  Jesus Christ said “I am the way, the truth and the life…” (John 14:6).  From this example alone any individual should see the great value of life, as Jesus gave His life that all people may partake of eternal life!  Yet, the Bible is also full of teaching concerning temporal life.  God told the prophet Jeremiah “Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5).  This verse stands in direct opposition to the modern day philosophy concerning life.  Most “great thinkers” of this day would have people believe that an unborn baby is not a baby, and that it is certainly not alive!  However, God says that it is He which forms one in the womb and that He knows those whom He forms before they even begin the existence of “life after birth”.  Oh, if only people would revere the creation of God as they should!  Jesus Christ said “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”, and that is exactly what He did!  If life is so valueless and expendable that people will not even acknowledge it until after birth (if even then), how can they appreciate the sacrifice of Christ that God had planned eternally?  If Christians do not hold a Godly view of life, then “Christ is dead in vain” and they are yet “dead in their sins”.   Furthermore, without the Christian influence in the world, there is little hope for the remainder of the population to ever reach a righteous respect for life and a desire to live it correctly.  People fail to see the value and importance of the next life because they cannot even appreciate this life which is “like a vapor that appears for a little time and vanishes away”.  In John 3:12 Jesus told Nicodemus that it was impossible to understand spiritual things if the physical things could not even be understood, by saying: “If I have told you earthly things, and you believe not, how will you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?”
